OCLC Connexion Record Display Problem

Since around Valentine's Day OCLC has been having a problem in the Connexion Client where individual records are not displaying. This is due to a recent Microsoft Windows update.
This is only a problem for the Connexion Client. The Connexion Browser is not affected, so Browser users can ignore this message. Details on the problem, including a patch you can install, are available through OCLC System Alerts.

Here is the latest info on this issue from OCLC's Cataloging & Metadata Services Division:

Connexion client users, please read this important announcement. If you use the web-based Connexion browser this information does not impact you.
To recap, MS KB918118 security patch did not allow you to display records in client versions 1.60 and1.70. We created patches for version 1.6 and 1.7 of the client that were to allow you all to display records in the client with the in patch place. We discovered today that these OCLC patches do not allow Chinese, Japanese and Korean script characters to be input correctly with global IME. End of life for version 1.6 is rapidly approaching and we know that many of you will be upgrading to version 1.70 over the next month. We don’t want you all to have to install the 1.70 software and then take a second step to install the patch for 1.70. We also need to fix the CJK problem referenced above. Fixing this problem is a very high priority for us. Have we got a deal for you!
We are going to create version 1.72 of the client that incorporates the change to accommodate MS KB918118 and the fix for the CJK problem referenced above. In addition, we will fix problems that have caused some users to refrain from upgrading from version 1.60 to 1.70. We will fix validation problems with the Thai, Tamil, Bengali and Devanagari scripts. The last change is a fix for a problem where client export does not put the correct subfield information in field 035 when more than one OCLC control number is present in field 035. Version 1.72 should be ready within the next week or two. We will keep you updated. We suggest that if you have not upgraded to 1.70, wait for version 1.72. You may go directly from version 1.60 to version 1.72 when you do your upgrade. You do not need to do the 1.70 patch install when you upgrade to 1.72. Version 1.70, the 1.70 patch and version 1.72 will all be supported by OCLC. It's your local decision which 1.7x version to use on your machines. We will extend the end of life for version 1.60 from April 1 to April 15, 2007 to give you all some extra time to upgrade due to these issues.
Thanks again for hanging in with us!

The NHAIS OCLC Program

All NHAIS libraries have access to downloadable cataloging records from OCLC through the NHU-PAC -- including ones that aren't there yet through the add brief records form.

A few NH libraries however, have opted to have direct cataloging access to OCLC's WorldCat database through the NHAIS OCLC Program. To participate in this program a library must have at least one cataloger on staff who can complete an OCLC skills check to show that they know how to use Connexion software and the OCLC cataloging system in an efficient and cost-effective way. The library has to sign an agreement that they will comply with the terms of the program and to has to pay a small annual fee to participate in the program.

From time to time we receive information here in NHAIS Services that might be of interest to the libraries who participate in this program and we will be posting that information on this blog under the topic "OCLC program." If you aren't participating in this program you can ignore these postings.

Another NHU-PAC outage Thurs. Feb. 22

Thursday, February 22, 10:05 a.m.: Expect the NHU-PAC to be offline at times today. This continues work to restore the enhanced content (pictures, reviews, etc.) that's been missing from the database since January 24. We make no promises as to how long the system will be down today. Yesterday, we were told NHU-PAC would be offline for only a few minutes but it was unavailable for nearly an hour.

Message archives for NHAIS-L and NHAIS-ILL

Messages posted to the general NHAIS e-mail list (NHAIS-L) and the NHAIS interlibrary loan e-mail list (NHAIS-ILL) are archived back to June 2002. The message archives can be viewed only by list subscribers with passwords. Subscribers should receive reminder messages with the passwords at the beginning of each month.

If you don't have your password, go to <http://maillist2.nh.gov/mailman/listinfo/nhais-l> for NHAIS-L or <http://maillist2.nh.gov/mailman/listinfo/nhais-ill> for NHAIS-ILL and, near the bottom of the page, enter your subscribed address next to the "Unsubscribe or edit options" button, then click the button. Near the bottom of the next page there's a "Remind" button that you can click to have the server send you a password reminder message. The system-assigned passwords are different for each list.

With your password, go back to <http://maillist2.nh.gov/mailman/listinfo/nhais-l> for NHAIS-L or <http://maillist2.nh.gov/mailman/listinfo/nhais-ill> for NHAIS-ILL. Near the top of the page, under "About Nhais-l" (or "About Nhais-ill"), you'll see a link to "Nhais-l Archives" (or "Nhais-ill Archives"). Click and enter your subscribed address and password to see a list of months. Choose how you'd like to view messages from a particular month (sorted by thread, subject, author, or date) or download a compressed text file (the "gzip'd text" option).

[Above links were modified June 13, 2007, to reflect new addresses for NHAIS-L and NHAIS-ILL. As of the same date, archives are available to September 2006.]

Jan 2007 Correction

The entry for the lost Grisham book in the January 2007 Lost Books List should have read Innocent Man, not Inside Man. It is a CD set and new, spine label info given as AUD 345.766, although whether the marking is actually on it, is a question.
Send to Newbury PL, rather than Center Harbor, if found. Newbury had just purchased it.
