Anyone who signed up for classes in the past week should have received a confirmation message by now. You'll receive a separate message for each class; if you thought you were signing up for three classes and received only one confirmation, please get in touch with the NHAIS Help Desk.

Van Delivery Service, late September/October

The NH State Library has NO scheduled holidays for the month of October. Van Delivery will be running daily, Monday through Friday. If your library is closed on Columbus Day, Monday, October 8, 2007, and the van driver does not have a key to your library, you may want to make alternate arrangements, especially if you are a once a week stop.

For a complete list of all of the holidays the State Library is closed, please visit http://www.nh.gov/nhsl/services/librarians/van_delivery/instructions.html (the van delivery instructions) and scroll down to "NO Van Service".

Also, beginning tomorrow, I will be on vacation through October 15th. If you have extra boxes to be picked up/delivered, or other Van Delivery Service issues that cannot wait until I return, please contact the Circulation Desk (271-2616).

Substitute Drivers will be making van deliveries on the following dates in late September/October:

September 28 - Capital District and Lakes Region route
October 1st - Lakes Region route.
October 3rd - Southwestern route
October 5 - Capital District and Lakes Region route
October 12 - Lakes Region route and Southwestern Route B
October 15 - Lakes Region route
October 16 - Southeastern Route B

The vans may (more than likely) be running a little later than normal on these dates.

Van Directory Change/Addition

A change and an addition is being made to the Van Directory.

Acworth Silsby Public Library will be receiving their van delivery via Walpole (instead of Charlestown).

Alstead (Shedd-Porter Memorial Library) will begin receiving van delivery via Walpole. This is a new addition!

The changes have already been made to the online van directory which can be found at http://www.nh.gov/nhsl/services/librarians/van_delivery/directory.html.

To print a current van directory list arranged in alphabetical order by library, please use the PDF version which is available at http://www.nh.gov/nhsl/services/librarians/van_delivery/documents/vandirectory.pdf

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print this pdf file.
If you do not have it installed on your machine, you may down load it for free from http://www.adobe.co.uk/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

NHU-PAC Holdings Maintenance outage

Wednesday, September 12, 9:20 a.m.: While most of our servers are up and running after an overnight power outage, the one which hosts Holdings Maintenance is still out of service. We're working to bringing this back online.

NHU-PAC searching restored Wed. 9-12-07

Wednesday, September 12, 8:40 a.m.: NHU-PAC searching has been restored. NHAIS-L and NHAIS-ILL are also back in business after a server outage caused by a blown fuse at the state's server farm.

NHU-PAC searching down Wed. 9-12-07

Wednesday, September 12, 7:30 a.m.: An overnight power failure at the state's server farm has disrupted service at a number of state websites. At this writing, you can connect to the NHU-PAC but won't be able to do any useful searches. We're working on restoring the search service and you may not be able to reach the NHU-PAC at times while this is worked on.

We're also unable to get at the server which hosts NHAIS-L and NHAIS-ILL at this time so don't expect to see any messages from those lists right away.

Children's Book Review

The Children's Book Review will be held at the State Library in Concord during the week of September 17th, 2007. This is an opportunity for NH Library staff to preview new titles in children's and teen's fiction and nonfiction. You can attend the Review anytime Monday through Friday between 8am and 4pm each day. Librarians who attend can choose a few titles that will be sent via van following the Review. If you are a school librarian, please make arrangements with a public library so that your books may be sent by van. We can no longer mail books.

If you would like to preview the list of titles that will be on display, you can find this information in NHU-PAC.

Questions about the Children's Book Review should be directed to Ann Hoey, Youth Services Coordinator New Hampshire State Library at 603-271-2865 or ahoey@library.state.nh.us

NHU-PAC searching restored 9-5-07

Wednesday, September 5, 1:15 p.m.: NHU-PAC searching has been restored after an outage of nearly 4 hours. SirsiDynix will be doing further work in the database throughout this afternoon and some brief outages may be necessary to facilitate repairs.

NHU-PAC searching down 9-5-07

Wednesday, September 5, 9:30 a.m.: NHU-PAC searches are yielding "Unable to retrieve results" or "Unable to retrieve data" messages at this time. We are working to restore the search service.

From 9:45 a.m. onwards, users are mostly finding that the only search available is by NHU-PAC record number, which is not particularly useful. In the ILL section, all searches result in "catalog returned error." We have been in touch with SirsiDynix about fixing this problem.
