Van Delivery, November 2007

The State Library will be closed on Monday November 12th, in observance of Veterans' Day and November 22nd and 23rd for Thanksgiving. There will be NO van delivery on those dates. If one of those days is your only stop for the week, you may want to make other arrangements for a delivery that week.

For a complete list of all of the holidays the State Library is closed, please visit http://www.nh.gov/nhsl/services/librarians/van_delivery/instructions.html (the van delivery instructions) and scroll down to "NO Van Service".

There will be substitute van drivers on the following days in the month of November:

November 16 - Southeastern Route
November 19-21 - North Country Route
November 26-30 - Monday and Wednesday Lakes Region Route; Tuesday and Thursday Southeastern Supplemental Route and Friday Southwestern Supplemental Route

Database integrity check moved to Sunday

Because we have had issues recently with the weekly database integrity check not finishing in time for people to start work with the NHU-PAC on Monday mornings, we have moved that weekly check to Sundays in the hope that fewer people will be inconvenienced by a routine outage each Sunday.

NHU-PAC indexing issue

Looking for brand new materials in the NHU-PAC and not finding them? Try doing a browse search (not an option for the ILL program).

Our indexing for keyword searches currently has a lot of catching up to do following some maintenance work. We've added more than a thousand new bibliographic records to the NHU-PAC in the past week but it'll be another day or two before you can find any of them through keyword searches.

When you do a keyword search in the NHU-PAC, your search is run against various indexes rather than looking through all the records in the database. This is akin to looking at a book's index rather than flipping through all its pages to find a piece of information. Normally, new additions are indexed within two or three minutes of being added to the NHU-PAC but right now it's taking several days. We expect the backlog to clear up over the weekend.

Separately, NHAIS Services is catching up on moving holdings submitted through the Add Brief Records form onto full records. This was running several weeks behind in the past month and we noticed some users were submitting their holdings multiple times because they didn't see their original submission show up in the NHU-PAC in a timely fashion.

NHU-PAC ILL Request #500,000

Congratulations to Sean Fleming at Lebanon Public Library for placing the half-millionth ILL request on the current NHU-PAC system. Request #500,000, for A Piece of Justice: An Imogen Quy Mystery by Jill Paton Walsh, was placed Tuesday afternoon, October 9. It was shipped by Enfield Public Library on Wednesday and received at Lebanon on Friday.

new e-mail addresses for NHAIS Services

Sending a message to the NHAIS Help Desk? Sending files of records to be uploaded to the NHU-PAC? Here's the new address to use:

nhu-pac@dcr.nh.gov

All e-mail addresses for the State Library were changed over the weekend. These changes will be reflected on our web pages in the near future. Messages sent to the old addresses are supposed to be forwarded to the new addresses for a year but we suggest you start using the new address above for any e-mail communication with NHAIS Services. This change does NOT affect where you send messages for the NHAIS-L and NHAIS-ILL e-mail lists.

While we encourage you to use the address above for any Help Desk issues or to send MARC records for loading to the NHU-PAC, if you want to contact individual members of NHAIS Services here are the new addresses:

Charles.LeBlanc@dcr.nh.gov

David.Harris@dcr.nh.gov

Margaret.Dinger@dcr.nh.gov

Mary.Russell@dcr.nh.gov

Michelle.Reed@dcr.nh.gov

Trisha.Lindner@dcr.nh.gov

You may use all lower-case letters if you prefer. In case you were wondering, the DCR in our new addresses is the Department of Cultural Resources, which includes the NH State Council on the Arts, the Division of Historical Resources, and the NH Film and Television Office as well as the State Library.
