Clippings from the Blogosphere
I didn't get a lot of feedback on last week's clippings, but what I did get was positive, so here is another batch of items I found interesting:
- A presentation for CIL2009 by Librarian in Black on "The 10 LOL Cat Laws of Web Services for Smaller and Underfunded Libraries" I really don't get the whole LOL cat thing, but the tips in the presentation were good.
- Librarian.net had a recent post about a visit to the Howe Library (Hanover, NH) which includes some interesting points about mentoring new librarians.
- According to LISNews, the Library of Congress will be uploading digital materials to online services like YouTube and iTunes.
- Why starting at the end will improve the emails you write.
- I think a dry-erase board is the way to go if you want to mind-map, but for the more techie among you, the 5 best mind mapping applications (including some free ones) from LifeHacker.
- Are book reviews of value? Michelle Kerns, a blogger and book reviewer isn't sure they are.
- Will e-book anti-piracy technology hurt readers? A piece from NPR, pointed out by LISNews, which also posted a Talk of the Nation segment called "A Kindle Society Can Be Literate."
- The Demographics of Facebook - a post from Stephen's Lighthouse
- Broadband Stimulus info from Public Knowledge
- This video -- which is funny and includes some good basic tips on patron interactions -- was featured on Lipstick Librarian, a library blog for readers who are not easily offended.
