Clippings from the Blogosphere
- LibraryZen offers HTML for a National Library Week corner banner you can use on your website.
- Two recent items on recycling electronics, one from Stephen's Lighthouse and the other from LifeHacker.
- The Library of Congress has been busy: they added Lincoln photos to their Flickr stream, started a Twitter feed, and launched a YouTube channel. They must have heard the news that social networking increases productivity.
- Librarian.net mentioned that ALA has launched their own social network, ALA Connect. Before you dive in -- or even if you already have -- check out the summary of a recent program on social network profile management from Librarian in Black.
- Next time someone asks you why libraries are necessary you can tell them that "the purpose of the Library is to preserve the integrity of civilization." This is the first of The Darien Statements on the Library and Librarians.
- A few recent reference items that looked interesting: A Master List of Free Online Language Lessons, The LIS Publications Wiki, The Dictionary of American Regional English. Please note that I am a cataloger and that these sources have not been evaluated by professional reference librarians before being listed here. I just thought they were interesting.
- An email interview with Gmail's Senior Product Manager Keith Coleman about where the 5-year-old service goes from here.
- LISNews reported recently on legislation to revise national security letters and the Children's Lead Book Ban Petition.
