Re-indexing

Dear NHAIS members (or current cyber resident):

Due to some internal NHU-PAC workings the keyword & browse indexes for NHU-PAC titles will be re-created the weekend of 6-9 March 2009. The process will begin about 6:00 PM on Friday 6 March. From this time until the reindexing is complete only titles that have been indexed will show up in browse or keyword searches. As the process continues more and more titles will be visible through these searches.

The last time this reindex was done the entire process took 4 days. With the new server in place, I hope the reindex will be mostly completed by Monday morning, 9 March. If it is not, the bulk of the records will be available at that time through all searches.

The weekend was chosen to minimize the disruption of work flows caused by the database not being at 100% functionality. There are currently 1.9 million titles in NHU-PAC, with roughly 12 million “holdings”.

Cataloging record available for Parent Power DVD

The Parent Information Center (PIC) and its partner Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC), in cooperation with the Family Resource Connection (FRC) of the New Hampshire State Library is offering New Hampshire Public Libraries a free copy of a new DVD “Parent Power: Supporting Your Child’s Academic Success” which is geared toward helping families develop good study and organizational strategies for learning.

FRC will be sending a packet which contains a DVD to each New Hampshire Public library to share with patrons including families with children. Each DVD includes resources to support parent involvement in their child’s education, and specific tips for them to help their child learn.
They have also included a survey for Parent Information and Resource Center, on how many times the DVD is borrowed between the time you receive it and June 30, 2009. This survey is to help gather statistics for the funders who helped with the creation and distribution of the DVD.

This DVD has been cataloged and the record is available in the NHU-PAC, it is record #2305735

Van Delivery Service - A Reminder

When sending boxes (or items out of the ordinary) on the van, if the box/item does not fit in the van delivery bin, please notify the State Library in advance that there will be an extra box(es)/item(s) to pick up. To make such a notification, call the Circulation Desk at the State Library (603-271-2616).

Also, please try to avoid sending these types of items during a holiday week.

Thank you for your cooperation.

State Tax Forms - DP-10 and DP-10 Instructions

The second shipment of N.H. Department of Revenue Administration tax forms are being sent out on the van this week.

This second shipment contains the Interest and Dividends Tax Form (DP-10) and Instructions (DP-10-Inst).

Libraries requesting a large number of forms may find their numbers have been reduced from last year. If a patron needs additional forms you may photocopy from Package X, print the forms from the Department of Revenue Administration's web site, http://www.revenue.nh.gov/forms/index.htm, or direct the patron to call the Forms Line maintained by the Department of Revenue Administration (603)271-2192.
