Good to Go
The servers have been restarted for the month and everything is now working as it should be. If you find differently, please let us know.
NHAIS Notes is a way for the New Hampshire State Library to disseminate information about NHAIS programs and issues. The mission of the New Hampshire Automated Information System (NHAIS) is to promote and improve access to library and information resources for and about New Hampshire. I missed a step (David is training me on a server routine, I will do better next month). There will be an additional brief interruption of NHU-PAC searching (5 minutes-ish).

The server restart has been completed for this month. It will take a few more minutes (15ish) for holdings maintenance to be back on line. If things do not work as expected after that, please contact the NHAIS Help Desk at 271-2141.

May 31: It's the last Tuesday of the month and that means there'll be a system restart this morning, part of the routine maintenance schedule noted on the Known Issues page. Expect the NHU-PAC to be offline for about 10 minutes sometime between 8 and 9 a.m.

The purchase of a new main database server for NHU-PAC and the continuation of our support contract with SirsiDynix for NHU-PAC was on today's Governor & Council Agenda (it is item #9). The request was approved. We will be moving forward with the purchase and installation of a new production server as soon as possible. When a specific plan is in place we will let everyone know when things will be shut down for the transition.
There was news making the rounds of the state recently (I think I saw it in minutes from an NHLA meeting or perhaps a coop meeting) that we had gotten a new server. That was a different server than the one that was approved today. In March we replaced the server that the NHU-PAC Holdings Maintenance programs reside on with a newer server that had been used as our pac server in the past (that is the server that the webpages you see when you use the NHU-PAC actually reside on). The one we are now replacing is the main server that hosts the actual NHU-PAC database.

NHAIS Services will not be able to place a bulk order for the 23rd edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification at the negotiated discount price of $319.20 because only 19 copies were ordered . We had to buy at least 50 copies to get the discount. The libraries who ordered the 19 copies were contacted directly.
The list price for the 4 volume DDC23 is $399. OCLC is offering a 10% discount on copies ordered by July 1, 2011. You can order the printed DDC directly from OCLC
If you are interested in WebDewey as an alternative to the print version, NHAIS does have a group price on that available.

According to Janet Eklund, Administrator of Library Operations, NHSL:
As of Friday, May 6th, there remain 31 libraries who HAVE NOT submitted their annual library reports. Some of these libraries have not even started their report.
That means that 203 libraries HAVE submitted their reports! Thank you to every librarian who diligently completed your library report.
Please make completing your report a priority at: http://collect.btol.com/ I will be calling non-responding libraries next week to offer my assistance in the process if it is needed.
Thank you for your participation in this very important state and national survey. As always, I welcome all calls (603-271-2393) and emails (janet.eklund@dcr.nh.gov) with your questions.

The NHAIS Help Desk, in the form of yours truly, will be at the NHLA Spring Conference in Manchester this Thursday and Friday. Feel free to drop by the State Library table and ask those nagging or niggling or even nonsensical NHAIS- and NHU-PAC-related questions that you've never quite found the time to call or write about. Or just stop by to say "hi." Bobbi Slossar will be present at selected hours to answer your questions about downloadable books and online databases and assorted technological matters.
While I'm at the conference, you can still contact the NHAIS Help Desk through the regular channels (271-2141 or nhu-pac@dcr.nh.gov).
