Brief NHU-PAC searching outage 3/29 7:35am
There will be brief interruption of NHU-PAC searching starting at 7:35 a.m. today (Thursday, Mar. 29) to allow installation of new keyword indexes. Searching should be restored within 5 minutes.
NHAIS Notes is a way for the New Hampshire State Library to disseminate information about NHAIS programs and issues. The mission of the New Hampshire Automated Information System (NHAIS) is to promote and improve access to library and information resources for and about New Hampshire. Suggestions or comments about this blog should be sent to mary.a.russell@dncr.nh.gov

Monday, March 26: Because NHU-PAC servers were restarted this morning to address system peformance issues, the monthly restart scheduled for tomorrow morning will be skipped as long as no further performance issues surface. However, there will be a brief interruption of NHU-PAC searching to allow installation of updated indexes. This will probably happen around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Monday, Marh 26: NHU-PAC servers will be restarted around 8:05 this morning. Most of the NHU-PAC should be back online within 5 minutes; the Holdings Maintenance server will probably take an extra 5 minutes to return to service.
Normally the servers are restarted on the last Tuesday of the month but with some problems noted this morning--slow display of individual results and missing pictures and reviews--we're doing the restart a day early.

Statistics on the use of NHAIS during 2011 have been compiled and added to the NHAIS webpage. The published data include ILL loans and borrows for each NHAIS library (active ILL participant or not) as well as snapshot holdings data for each library for 2002, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Holdings data is collected each January, so the figure listed as "2012" is the number of items listed in NHU-PAC as held by the library in January 2012.
During 2011 there were 225,705 items added to NHU-PAC by NHAIS libraries and 121,382 loans filled through NHAIS ILL (10,100 per month, approximately) by the 285 libraries currently participating in NHAIS ILL. Over the past decade the number of items listed in NHU-PAC has increased by 2,831,599.

Monday, Mar. 5: There may be further interruptions of NHU-PAC service today as we continue to work with the networking folks at the NH Dept. of Information Technology and the software folks at SirsiDynix to resolve connectivity and performance issues which were very much in evidence throughout Friday. We'll try to give advance notice if the system will be taken offline but please understand that sometimes that's not possible.
ILL users: Because ILL transactions happen on a separate server you may be able to do ILL work even if the rest of the NHU-PAC is down. The direct route to the ILL program is http://centre.library.state.nh.us/~ursa/staff_login_frame.html. If it's necessary to shut down searching functions for a while, that will affect all parts of the NHU-PAC, including the ability of ILL users to search and create new requests.

At the moment (Friday at 5:34pm) the NHU-PAC is up and running as it should be. We (with help from both SirsiDynix and the NH Dept. of Information Technology) have not been able to pin down why we keep losing web access to NHU-PAC, so I don't have a lot of confidence that the system will stay available all weekend.
SirsiDynix has some things to be tried out on Monday that may tell us why this is happening and make it stop. Until then, we are hoping for the best.
See my earlier post (now corrected) for how you can connect to ILL if NHU-PAC access disappears again.
If you don't already have a link to the NHAIS Blog besides the one on NHU-PAC, you might want to set one up. The address is http://nhais.blogspot.com/

The connectivity issue with NHU-PAC does not appear to be causing problems for the NHAIS ILL system. I tested a few things on an account just now and created, shipped, recieved, returned, and completed a new transaction (obviously I had to act as two different libraries to do this).
You can go directly to the NHAIS ILL system which is at http://centre.library.state.nh.us/~ursa/staff_login_frame.html
There is a link to it on the NHAIS web page as well, under ILL Resources.
NOTE: The original version of this post had a typo in the direct link to the ILL system. Sorry about that. it is now corrected.

There continue to be issues with connecting to NHU-PAC. We are working with the NH Department of Info Technology to get things sorted out. You will probably find that you cannot display the NHU-PAC site, regardless of which URL you use. We are working on fixing that and will let you know as soon as there is progress.

Friday, Mar. 2, 9:53 a.m.: One user reports trouble connecting to the NHU-PAC at its longtime address of http://www.nhu-pac.library.state.nh.us/ but was able to connect after entering the alternate address of nhu-pac.nh.gov in her browser's address area.
