NHU-PAC connectivity followup

Thursday, Feb. 21, 1 p.m.: Most locations which reported a problem connecting to the NHU-PAC earlier today are now able to connect.  If you're still having a problem, check if you're using a shortcut that points to http://www.nhu-pac.library.state.nh.us.  If so, change it to http://nhu-pac.nh.gov and see how that works.  If you're still having a problem, please contact the NHAIS Help Desk by e-mail or at 271-2141.

NHU-PAC connectivity followup

Thursday, Feb. 21, 11:35 a.m.: This might be worth a try...if you're having trouble reaching the NHU-PAC, try typing nhu-pac.nh.gov into the address area of your browser.  If that doesn't work, try 199.192.6.130.

NHU-PAC connectivity problem

NHU-PAC e-mail issue

Monday, Jan. 11: There's some progress to report with the NHU-PAC e-mail issue last noted here a month ago.  Plain text messages sent when viewing individual records now work correctly.

There's still a problem with HTML messages sent when viewing individual records: they just don't get through.  SirsiDynix is working on this.  No problems have been noted when sending e-mails from My List or from a page with multiple search results.

LR van route truncated Mon 2/11

NHAIS by the Numbers 2012

Statistics for NHAIS Activity during 2012 have been posted on the NHSL website. The spreadsheet includes all libraries registered with NHAIS Services, whether they participate in ILL or not. Besides interlibrary loan transaction information, the number of items listed in NHU-PAC as held by each library is also inlcuded.

During 2012 there were several libraries who had a net loss in holdings. Each NHAIS library is responsible for deleting the NHU-PAC holding for any material they remove from their collection. Mass weeding projects can result in a loss of holdings during a calendar year and holdings clean-up projects can also cause this.

During 2012 there were 156,769 items added to NHU-PAC by NHAIS libraries and 110,502 loans filled through the system (9,200 per month, approximately) by the 287 libraries currently participating in NHAIS ILL.

During 2012 the top lenders in the system based on number of loans filled were:

Library
# Loans Filled
Rochester - Rochester Public
2427
Hampton - Lane Memorial
2061
Keene - Keene Public
2049
Nashua - Nashua Public
2048
Barrington - Barrington Public
2028
Lancaster - W D Weeks Memorial
2025
Concord - Concord Public
1907
Dover - Dover Public
1823
Londonderry - Leach
1687
Manchester - Manchester City

2010 Public Libraries in the United States Survey Released

According to Janet Eklund, Administrator of Library Operations, New Hampshire State Library:

IMLS recently released the 2010 Public Libraries in the United States Survey (http://goo.gl/RErnU), an analysis of the most comprehensive annual data collection of U.S. public library statistics. Nationally, public libraries have seen reductions in operating revenue, service hours, and staffing. Numbers for circulation, program attendance, and computer use continue to trend upward. This is the first federal statistical report on public libraries to go beyond a national level analysis to report on trends at the local, regional, and state levels. The report identifies indicators in three areas: services and operations, resources, and workforce. To provide a more complete picture of library service in the U.S., the report provides a snapshot for each state (http://goo.gl/RErnU), describing characteristics of library service. New Hampshire's summary page is available here: http://www.imls.gov/assets/1/AssetManager/PLS_FY2010_SP_NewHampshire.pdf The data submitted in the Public Library Annual Report is used in producing this publication.

February 2013 Holiday - President's Day

The New Hampshire State Library will be closed on Monday, February 18, 2013 for President's Day.

There will be NO VAN DELIVERY on that date.

For a complete list of all of the holidays the State Library is closed, please visit http://www.nh.gov/nhsl/services/librarians/van_delivery/instructions.html (the van delivery instructions) and scroll down to "NO Van Service".

If for any other reason (e.g. bad weather) van service on a particular route(s) does not operate, libraries will be notified via an e-mail message and this blog. If your library does not receive van service on a particular day, please check your e-mail and this blog before calling the State Library.

Please remember to properly label each item which you are sending via the Van Delivery Service. This will help ensure these items make it to the correct destination in a timely manner.

If you need a refresher on how items should be marked for the van, please refer to the Van Delivery Service - Instructions,http://www.nh.gov/nhsl/services/librarians/van_delivery/instructions.html, and scroll down to number 3 of the guidelines, "Addressing material to be sent on the van".

To print a current van directory list arranged in alphabetical order by library, please use the PDF version which is available athttp://www.nh.gov/nhsl/services/librarians/van_delivery/documents/vandirectory.pdf
You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print this pdf file. If you do not have it installed on your machine, you may down load it for free fromhttp://www.adobe.co.uk/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Due to the ever increasing load of materials transported by the New Hampshire State Library van delivery system, our vans can reach maximum capacity before the end of a van route, especially following long weekends and holidays. Our drivers can decline to accept materials if they feel they cannot fit them safely on their van. We are also asking libraries to please be aware of volume during times when there is likely to be a problem. You should prioritize your materials to be picked up, in case some items must be left until the next van pick up. That will allow us to immediately transport the most important items as quickly as possible.

If you have any questions you may contact Donna Gilbreth at 271-2060 or Diana DeCota at 271-2206.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
