Moo-PAC change

This message is for catalogers who use the Moo-PAC as a Z39.50 target (not the standalone NHU-PAC target).

Because of a change being made to the State Library's own catalog (not the NHU-PAC) to accommodate cybersecurity measures, settings for the Moo-PAC need to be updated. It's just one teeny-tiny change: the database name (sometimes listed as the database ID) needs to have a "2" added to the end.

(The view above is from the MarcEdit Z39.50/SRU Client. The Z39.50 setting screen in your ILS may look a little different.)

For now, both "nhunionstatezip" and "nhunionstatezip2" will work as database names. That will change in a few weeks when "nhunionstatezip" will stop working. If you have the Moo-PAC configured as a Z39.50 target, you should update the database name now.

The Moo-PAC was introduced in April as an additional option for catalogers looking to download free MARC records. It allows you to search both the NHU-PAC and the State Library's own catalog (known in-house as Moose) as a single Z39.50 target. See Options for Downloading MARC Records from NHAIS for more information.

Local account blocked for ILL

This message concerns only libraries which allow patron-initiated requesting in the NHAIS ILL System. From time to time, the NHAIS Help Desk hears from staffers bumping into a block in the system when trying to place a request on behalf of a particular account. This usually means something's changed with the account in your ILS. Check if the account has expired or if the patron has changed the password in your catalog. If the latter, having the patron log into the NHAIS ILL System with the new password should fix the problem.

ILL fixes and enhancements Tue 6/10 10pm

The NHAIS ILL System will be offline briefly tonight (Tuesday, June 10) starting at 10 o'clock.

This software update will fix the issue of the “Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'  Permission denied…” error message appearing when changing a request status. This has been occurring intermittently and required staff to update the request again if the initial update attempt didn't work. The error was traced to the volume of updates being done at the same time.

When viewing either Borrower Requests or Lender Requests (under Staff Dashboard > ILL Admin), users can scroll to the bottom of the page to choose how many requests to display per page. In the past, it has always defaulted to showing 50. Following tonight's update, the selected number of items per page will persist between sessions.

Routing slips

Van instructions (linked from the Van Delivery Service webpage) tell you to "[u]se a routing slip, which is at least 2 inches wide and 11 inches long. The State Library does not provide these slips." Our automated ILL system, however, does create slips if you provide the printer and paper. Some libraries prefer to use routing slips they've devised on their own--there's nothing in the instructions prohibiting that--but, if you use locally designed slips, please make sure the appropriate information (as outlined in the instructions) is present.

Van addresses are formatted differently from postal addresses and it's important to get the addresses right to avoid delays in shipping. If using your own routing slips, there are two ways to make sure you get the correct address: consult the van directory or see what the system-generated slip looks like without printing it.

The van directory (also linked from the Van Delivery Service webpage) is updated from time to time so if you've been consulting an old copy you should take a look at what's online now. Instructions on how to interpret the listings are on the first page of the directory.

To view system-generated slips, use the quick link (heart icon at upper right of screen) for Print Shipping Labels, check the box next to the title (note that only requests in Shipped or Will Supply/In Process status will appear in the list by default but you can choose other statuses from the dropdown menu), and click the Format to Print button (upper right of screen). A new window will open with the correctly formatted address at the top ("Route To:").

If you selected multiple titles, you'll need to scroll down to see addresses for the other titles. If you're not printing system-generated slips, just close the window (but if you want to try printing one, click the print icon on the right or choose Print from the menu). For more about system-generated routing slips, watch the 10-minute video on Printing Shipping Labels.

Once you view a slip, it counts as "Printed" even if you didn't actually print it. Change the "View:" setting if you need another peek at the slip.

Missing holdings options restored

Friday, May 30, 3:35 p.m.: Menu options to add, delete, and remove holdings in the union catalog (NHU-PAC) have been restored for those logged in with usernames ending with "all" or "cat."

Missing options for NHU-PAC holdings

Friday, May 30, 1:45 p.m.: For libraries maintaining holdings in the union catalog (NHU-PAC), the menu options to add, delete, or edit holdings directly in the catalog are missing. Anyone logged in with a username ending with "cat" or "all" should see options to Add Locations, Edit Locations, or Delete Locations when viewing a detail screen in search results but those options aren't visible in the menu today. This has been reported to Auto-Graphics.

Connecting to NHAIS ILL

In recent days the NHAIS Help Desk has heard from a few folks having trouble connecting to the NHAIS ILL System--waiting and watching things spin but never seeing the NHAIS logo or getting to a login screen. The fix involved clearing the cache in their browsers. The steps are slightly different for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera. You don't need to clear cookies, just the cache. If you need further help, contact the NHAIS Help Desk (603-271-2141 or nhu-pac@dncr.nh.gov).
