Bin numbers on shipping labels

Whether you use the NHAIS ILL System-generated shipping labels or your own routing slips, the information at the top of the slip is important for getting materials correctly sorted. System-generated slips have shown bin numbers for North Country van routes since 2022 and now we're going a further step and adding bin numbers for other routes in hopes this will make it easier--even if it's just a little bit easier--for materials to get into the correct bins.

Each month, roughly 15,000 requests are filled in the NHAIS ILL System. Nearly all of those requests are for returnable materials that require two trips on our van service. The easier it is to get those materials properly routed, the better.

No LR van Mon 10/6

We need to cancel the Lakes Region route for today Monday, October 6, 2025. The affected libraries are:

Tilton
Franklin
Bristol
Meredith
Moultonborough
Wolfeboro
Gilford
Laconia
Belmont
NHTI
Bow
Concord

Also Monday, October 13, is a holiday for some libraries. We will be working that day at the New Hampshire State Library. If you normally receive a delivery on Mondays but will be closed that day and we don’t have access to your library, please let me know.

ILL outage Sun 10/5 9pm

The NHAIS ILL System will be offline for at least an hour Sunday night (October 5) starting at 9 o'clock. Service should be restored no later than 2:45 a.m. Monday. Auto-Graphics says they are upgrading their central database systems to a more recent version. "This maintenance is necessary to perform critical updates and optimizations, including: Applying security patches to protect against vulnerabilities; Improving system performance and reliability; Conducting routine health checks to prevent unplanned outages." The work was originally scheduled for last weekend.

GPO and the Federal Government Shutdown

This announcement went out to all Federal Depository Library Program participants. It includes info relevant to all libraries that use the FDLP sites.

--------------------------

As of midnight, Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the necessary funding to continue Federal Government operations has not been approved by the Congress and the President. The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) has shut down until funding is approved.

Under a shutdown, GPO employees may only work on activities directly related to the legislative process and on activities for an orderly shutdown and to protect property and assets.

  • GovInfo will continue to process and post congressional materials; existing content will continue to be available.
  • The Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP) will be available for searching but will not be updated until the Government reopens. GPO cannot ensure that all PURLs pointing to other Federal agency resources will work during this time, nor can GPO staff fix broken PURLs during this time.
  • DiscoverGov will be available for searching, but the Federal Government databases it searches may not be updated until the Government reopens.
  • The FDLP PURL Usage Report/PURL Server will continue to be available.
  • Shipments of tangible publications sent to depository libraries will cease beginning Wednesday, October 1, 2025. No claims will be processed. Depositories may still receive shipments that were mailed prior to the shutdown.
  • Inquiries may be submitted to askGPO, but they will not be answered by GPO staff until the Government reopens.
  • GPO.gov, FDLP.gov, Ben’s Guide to the U.S. Government, FDLP Resource Guides, and the LSCM GitHub Repositories will be available but will not be updated until the Government reopens.
  • FDLP Data Manager (FDM) will be available for searching shipping lists, the List of Classes, and MARC records but will not be updated until the Government reopens.
  • FDLP eXchange will be available for processing needs and offers but user support for new accounts or system issues will not be available until the Government reopens.
  • The FDLP Academy Training Repository will be available, but no FDLP Academy webinars will be held. Cancellations for scheduled webinars will not be sent during a shutdown.
  • Federal Register services on GovInfo will be limited to documents that protect life and property.
  • The U.S. Government Bookstore will be available for searching and placing orders, but orders will not be fulfilled until the Government reopens.
  • DSIMS will be available for item selection profile changes. UNION-L will not be updated.

The FDLP community is a network of Government information professionals who have a long tradition of working collaboratively to make Government information accessible to the public. Libraries in the FDLP should continue to serve patrons requesting U.S. Government information. We look forward to working with you again once the Federal Government reopens.
