SirsiDynix changes

SirsiDynix is pleased to announce that the company has appointed a new chief executive officer and a new chief financial officer. We are excited to make this announcement, particularly given that our new CEO, Gary M. Rautenstrauch, is familiar to the library community. As CEO, Gary will be responsible for all SirsiDynix corporate functions — finance and administration, international, development, operations, sales, and marketing. His direct reports will be Doug Maughan (see below), Keith Sturges, Talin Bingham, Mike Casale, Terry Jarnagin, Bill Davison, Stephen Abram, and Tom Gates. Gary will begin his new position on Friday, June 22.

Gary brings to SirsiDynix nearly 30 years of operational experience across many functions and more than 25 years of experience serving the library community. From 1981-2003, Gary worked at Baker & Taylor, a leading wholesale distributor of books, video and music products, data, and services to libraries worldwide. Gary’s roles at Baker & Taylor give him broad knowledge of the library space as well as extensive operational knowledge of companies that serve libraries. Gary served in a range of capacities at Baker & Taylor, including president and CEO, as well as COO. Since Gary’s time at Baker & Taylor, he has served as CEO of Blackwell’s Book Services, a provider of supplies to academic libraries, and as president and CEO of Advanced Marketing Services, a provider of merchandising, distribution, and publishing services to the book industry. Gary holds an MBA from New York University and a bachelor’s from the University of Miami in Florida.

We are also announcing that Douglas R. Maughan will be joining us, beginning on June 25, as our chief financial officer. Doug’s responsibilities will include executive management of all SirsiDynix corporate finance and administration functions, including accounting, finance, legal, human resources, facilities, and IT. His direct reports will be Mark Thorpe, John Anderson, Missy Pickering, Ian Forrest, Jackie Lohdefinck, Kristin Rydman, and Ken Hovanes.

Doug brings nearly 30 years of financial and administrative experience to SirsiDynix, including roles as CFO and vice president of administration. Most recently, Doug served as vice president of administration and CFO for Scriptpro LLC, a manufacturer of pharmacy automation solutions. He also served as senior financial officer of W.L. Gore and Associates Inc., an international manufacturer of products that include GORE-TEX, and CFO and vice president of administration for MG Industries, a manufacturing company. Early in his career, Doug served as a senior audit manager and staff accountant for PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte & Touche. Doug is a CPA who holds his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Utah State University and the University of Utah, respectively.

A press release about the appointments will be issued this afternoon.

Gary will be in attendance at the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., which kicks off on Saturday, June 23. Be sure to visit SirsiDynix Booth #3747.
