NHAIS Help Desk hours

For many years we've said the NHAIS Help Desk is open whenever the State Library is open. Starting this week, though, the State Library building at 20 Park Street in Concord will be closed to the public on Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons until further notice--but we'll still be here ready to respond to your Help Desk calls (603-271-2141) and e-mails (nhu-pac@dncr.nh.gov) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On holidays when the State Library is closed for the entire day, the NHAIS Help Desk will also be closed but you're welcome to leave a message.

Retirement

I want to let you all know that I will be retiring as of January 1, 2026. 
It has been wonderful to have worked here at the State Library for the past 28 years. I have made some great friends along the way.
I hope you all continue supporting each other and be kind to your ILL van drivers and the rest of the staff at the State Library. They work incredibly hard every day.
We have been very short staffed for almost a year now, and to think of everything we have managed to do in these circumstances really leaves me in awe.

Do Your Patrons Want More Large Print?

LP donations in process, April 2025

The NHSL has an ever-growing Large Print Collection which you can make available to your patrons in several different ways:

1. Our large print collection is in the NHSL's online catalog so as we add new titles to the collection they are immediately available through the normal NHAIS interlibrary loan process.
   
   
2. NH libraries can borrow themed set of LP books (for up to four months at a time) which they can display in their libraries and loan to their patrons. There are 10 themes so far and we are open to suggestions. Check out our LP Collection Page for details.
   
   
3.  NH libraries can select their own sets of LP books from a list of currently available titles. These sets can be borrowed for up to four months at a time and can be displayed and loaned just like the themed sets.   Check out our LP Collection Page to request a spreadsheet of available titles to choose from.
   

Our LP collection includes fiction, non-fiction, and biography on a wide variety of topics and in many different genres. Books for young readers, though at this point many fewer than are available for adults,  are also included in the collection.

Retirement

On May 28th I sent a letter to Governor Sununu telling him that I wished to leave my position as State Librarian in 2024 and that I would like to resign effective December 1, 2024. The Governor brought forward my request to the Executive Council at the Governor & Council Meeting on May 29th;  The Council has accepted my resignation.

It has been an honor to serve as the State Librarian for New Hampshire since 1999. I believe that during that period the NH State Library has accomplished a great deal. These accomplishments I believe have come about because of the outstanding staff of the State Library and the dedicated librarians in the New Hampshire Library Community. I wish you all the very best and look forward seeing you after I have started my next chapter.

NHSL Learning Pathways LibGuide

Please find here a resource for library employees, The goal of this LibGuide is to centralize many of the excellent training videos already created by the NHSL staff as well as curate other learning opportunities for newly hired staff or for staff who have new job responsibilities.

My hope is that this LibGuide will serve as a resource for libraries that are training library staff AND serve as an opportunity for all of us to check and refresh our professional knowledge and skills. My intention is for this to be a “living” resource that will be updated and maintained regularly.

If you see any glitches or problems, please do reach out. In addition, if you are aware of some resources that might be helpful to add or if you think of topics that could also be covered (I’m already working on a Reader’s Advisory pathway—shoutout to Alexa Moore at Amherst!), please let me know.
