ILL Training this Fall

We have scheduled several virtual ILL training sessions for NHAIS libraries in September and October, including multiple days/times for several of them.

These are the NHAIS ILL courses being offered this fall:

ILL Basics

This introductory session, presented by Auto-Graphics, is for new users of the NHAIS ILL System or those who want a basic refresher on discovery, logging in, placing requests on behalf of a patron plus an overview of Staff Dashboard and the Request Manager.

Offered: September 17, 1-3pm AND October 6, 10am-noon

Advanced ILL

This session, presented by Auto-Graphics,  will delve into managing NHAIS ILL requests as a borrower and lender, request search options, and the lender list build process.

 Offered: September 18, 1-3pm AND October 7, 10am-noon

Patron Initiated ILL Requesting

NHAIS ILL System libraries can allow their patrons to place their own requests in the system which are then mediated by the patron's library before going to potential lenders. In this session, presented by Auto-Graphics, we’ll look at the patron experience, including logging in, placing requests, and account options.

 Offered: September 19, 1-3pm AND October 8, 10am-noon

ILL Reports and Statistics

This session, presented by Auto-Graphics, will review the reports and statistics available to users of the NHAIS ILL System. .

 Offered: October 9, 10am-noon

You will find the registration links on the new NHSL Professional
Development Calendar.
All sessions are virtual and free to NH libraries.
Registration is REQUIRED.

We set up this calendar to serve as a one-stop-shop for NH libraries looking for training from the NHSL and other professional development opportunities. If you have ideas for improving this resource please email your suggestions to mary.a.russell@dncr.nh.gov

NHSL Learning Pathways LibGuide

Please find here a resource for library employees, The goal of this LibGuide is to centralize many of the excellent training videos already created by the NHSL staff as well as curate other learning opportunities for newly hired staff or for staff who have new job responsibilities.

My hope is that this LibGuide will serve as a resource for libraries that are training library staff AND serve as an opportunity for all of us to check and refresh our professional knowledge and skills. My intention is for this to be a “living” resource that will be updated and maintained regularly.

If you see any glitches or problems, please do reach out. In addition, if you are aware of some resources that might be helpful to add or if you think of topics that could also be covered (I’m already working on a Reader’s Advisory pathway—shoutout to Alexa Moore at Amherst!), please let me know.

Thank you all for the great work you are doing in the NH library community.

All my best,

Mindy Atwood

Webinar: The 1950 Census

As more and more Federal U.S. government information is made available online every library, in fact every citizen with an internet connection, gains access to more Federal documents. To help NH libraries keep up with these resources we are going to include occasional posts here on Federal Depository Library news and information.

The FDLP announced today:

Register to attend the live training webinar, "The 1950 Census ."

Date: Thursday, March 23, 2023Time: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (EDT)

Recording and closed captioning are available. All webinars are free of charge.

  • Speaker: Claire Kluskens, Genealogy/Census Records Subject Matter Expert, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
  • Learning outcomes: Federal decennial population census records provide a snapshot of families and individuals at 10-year intervals. The most recent publicly available census, 1950, was released for public use on April 1, 2022. This presentation provides an overview of what is and is not included in the 1950 census, what you can expect from NARA’s 1950 census website, and resources that can help librarians answer patron questions about the census.

Registration confirmation information:

Upon registering, a confirmation email from icSys@icohere.com will be sent with instructions for joining the webinar. To ensure delivery of that email, configure your junk mail or spam filter(s) to permit messages from that address. GPO staff will also email your access information the day before the webinar. If you do not receive your login information, please email FDLPoutreach@gpo.gov.

Prior to the webinar:

For those participating via a desktop or laptop computer (preferred method), a WebEx plug-in must be installed (one-time only). Download instructions. Some features will not be available for users participating with a tablet or smartphone. Devices need to have a WebEx app installed from the device’s app store, which may take time. After installation, the app will ask for you to Allow or Deny permissions.
