Batch status change

In the past month the NHAIS Help Desk has heard from a few ILL users who found, on the borrower side, that all their Received requests were now Returned. How'd that happen? Simple: somebody mistakenly used the batch change option on the Borrower's Received List page instead of changing the status on individual requests. There's a reason the batch change option is labeled in red:

Unfortunately, there's no undo option for this, either as a batch or individually. Many undo functions have been added to our ILL program since its launch in 2019 but some undo operations proved to cause problems for interoperability with NCIP systems. Undo Returned was one of a handful of undo functions that were researched but never developed because of NCIP implications.

Have some questions about using the NHAIS ILL System? The NHAIS Help Desk is here to help. Contact us via e-mail or phone 603-271-2141.

  1. I confess that I am one of the perpetrators of the mistaken batch change :( Regarding the warning in red; my problem is that I have become blind to it since it is always present and has become part of the furniture for me.

Is there any way that a pop-up warning could be added for these undoable batch operations? I'm thinking that whenever the batch change button is clicked for an operation that can't be undone, a pop-up window appears asking, "Are you sure that you want to change the status to [Returned] for ALL requests?"
Thanks for the post and for considering this suggestion!

  2. The pop-up warning sounds like a good suggestion. I'll submit it to Auto-Graphics for consideration as a development.
