Quick Links keyboard shortcuts coming
New Quick Links functionality will be available following an update to the NHAIS ILL System that will be installed tonight (Thursday, Jan. 28). The system will be unavailable for up to 15 minutes starting at 10 p.m.
You may continue to use Quick Links with your mouse as before but keyboard shortcut users should find speedier access to different screens in the ILL program by using the control key in combination with the number displayed next to the target in the Quick Links menu. Thus, in the image below, CTRL+1 would take you to the Request Manager screen.
Let's start with the heart icon in the upper right of your screen:
The “heart” menu will continue to be used to access Quick Links, to adjust the order of the items using the cross icon, and to delete Quick Links using the trashcan icon. Your existing links will be retained. If you change the order of the links, the associated number to use with the control key will also change. The limit for Quick Links remains at 10 but links will now be numbered 1, 2, 3 and so on up to 0 instead of the current 0, 1, 2 and so on up to 9.
The heart icon will display “F9” to indicate that the F9 key can be used to open the Quick Links menu without needing to use the mouse. Currently the icon shows the number of items in the Quick Links menu; this will no longer be displayed.
CTRL+L can be used to open the last-accessed staff page from any other page. The 3 most recent staff pages accessed continue to be displayed.
CTRL+B can be used to go to the Staff Dashboard from any page.
On the Staff Dashboard menu, the Quick Links header on the left will be followed by “(Ctrl+)” to indicate that the control key plus the number after the menu item can be used to go directly to that page.
The row of Quick Links will continue to be displayed at the top left of staff screens. “L” will display after the numbered Quick Links as a visual cue that the user can use CTRL+L to return to the last-accessed staff page. For details on setting up Quick Links, there's an online video you can check out.
In addition to the Quick Links enhancements, the following bugs are addressed by tonight's program update:
-Requests in some statuses were not being automatically deleted after the system-specified number of days. This includes Complete requests that should be deleted after 365 days in that status. This has been corrected.
-Requests in Recall status were not updating to Overdue when the Days to Return (currently set at 60 to accommodate the quarantine of ILL materials) had passed. The code has been corrected so Recalled requests will transition to Overdue when the due date has passed.
-The “Show More” option in facets (Format/Author/Date/etc. on the left side of search results screens) with many entries was not working as expected; when clicked, the screen would refresh but the facet then displayed as “closed” rather than open with all entries listed. This has been corrected so that, after the screen refresh, the selected facet will be open with the additional entries.
