Preview of the New NHAIS ILL System

We know that everyone is very anxious to see the new NHAIS ILL System and as we work through following up on incomplete profiling information and configuring stuff we took a few minutes this afternoon to create a video that shows how NH libraries will place and process basic ILL transactions. There are lots of other options available-- including requesting copies of articles and a really nice way to request multiple copies of the same book (like for a book club)--but here is a preview of the basic transaction process: New NHAIS ILL System Preview of Placing and Filling a Request.

  1. So the system decides who receives the request? Is that correct. No need to select libraries like the old system, yes? Fine with me . . . less work. Does the system default requests to places where the item is checked in?

    1. Yes, the new system implements the NHAIS ILL protocol for choosing a lender (as outlined in the protocol manual) automatically behind the scenes. Choosing lenders will no longer be part of creating a request.

    2. This is a problem for libraries who only have one delivery a week. I always pick libraries by when they have pickup. If the system chooses a library with a Wednesday only pickup like us, that means the item will not get here for a full 2 weeks. Karen Dixon/Hopkinton Town Library

    3. We are aware of this issue and are looking into whether there is a solution that can be implemented.

  2. Can we run stats through this system?

    1. Yes. Stats for the ILL activity of individual libraries are accessible to each library.
