Deflecting Requests for Materials without Items
We are looking at a variety of ways that we can deflect loan requests away from Z-target libraries based on various scenarios.
The first scenario that we are ready to configure for Z-target libraries is the case where you have bibliographic records in your local system that do NOT have items attached to them. For example, this might apply to things you have discarded all copies of but retained the bib record for some reason.
If this applies to your library and you want to have things set up so that you will NOT get requests based on those bibliographic records please email the NHAIS Help Desk with the following information:
- What is your library's HSA code?
- What local system do you have? (Koha, Atriuum, etc.)
- What is the title and author of an item in your catalog that has no items attached to it? (so we can test)
- Who should we contact at your library with any follow-up questions?
If you retain BOTH the bibliographic record and the item record for discarded materials this solution will NOT apply to you. (If you add a "discarded" value to a particular item field for example). We are looking at a variety of scenarios where Z-target libraries want to limit the materials for which they get requests, including items with particular values in them, and will announce the availability of these solutions as they are identified and tested.
If you are set up to deflect requests for bib records with no items attached in your local system the records will still display, but without a holding. You will not be included in lender strings for these titles. |
