Navigation and matching enhancements coming to the NHAIS ILL System Thu 4/14

Searchers wishing to browse through details of results will no longer have to go back a screen to select the next record and the lender list build process will be altered to improve matching as part of enhancements being installed to the NHAIS ILL System tonight (Thursday, April 14). The system will be offline for up to 15 minutes starting at 10 o'clock tonight while the upgrade is being installed.

When on a detail screen, navigation arrows will be available toward the bottom of the screen to make it possible to go to the detail screen for the next or previous record in your results without needing to go back to the search results or brief view screen.

(How do you know which screen you're on? The URL includes search, brief, or details right after agshareit.com.)

If you're using the clustered display (the default view, which groups by title/author) or merged display (title/author/publisher/date) and there are multiple formats, the Next button takes you to the next result within the cluster. In the example below, you'd go from the record for the book Enchanted April to the DVD, the videocassette, and the visual materials record for Enchanted April, then on to the record for the book April 16th. Expect to see some duplication when there are multiple records from different catalogs for the same title and format.

Next and Previous will only be active as the result of a search. If you arrive at a record from a permanent URL or by clicking on a cover image in a saved list, there will be no Next and Previous arrows.

In another development, the lender list build process is being updated to avoid some repetitive checking and enhance the probability of making successful matches to determine which libraries belong on a lender list.

Previously, if a match was made based on an LCCN, OCLC number, UPC, or publisher number, SHAREit would then validate the match based on four subfields in MARC field 245 (title): $a $b $n $p. Because of varying cataloging practices, not all catalogs use $n (number) and $p (part) in MARC field 245. Using the four subfields for validation led to several false negatives, meaning valid lenders were being left off lender lists.

With tonight's changes, if a record has already matched on ISBN or ISSN, it will be considered a match without any additional title or author check (format validation is still applied). Record matching on LCCN, OCLC, UPC, or publisher number will be checked for title (just 245 $a and $b now) and author before format validation.
