ILL? Not yet
While some libraries are in the process of resuming patron services, don't expect the NHAIS ILL System and the NHSL van service to be back in business until a majority of New Hampshire libraries are ready to accept and process ILL deliveries with proper protocols in place. Interlibrary loan is a two-party process and it won't work if only one party is participating.
The NHAIS ILL System remains up and running, ready to serve catalogers who want to download MARC records to use locally or for union catalog participants to add or remove holdings directly in the system. For ILL purposes, though, all lenders are set to be "on vacation" so any new requests entered in the system will immediately go to Retry status. Libraries are currently set to be "on vacation" through June 4; that is likely to be extended (as has happened twice since service was shut down in March).
When ILL service is ready to resume, we'll post instructions on what you'll need to do to get restarted. Until then, you can leave all your ILL transactions as is. However, if you're in
your library and want to deal with materials you have coming back from your
patrons you can mark them Returned in the system and put them in your van
bin to be picked up and taken back to their owners when van service resumes.
- place any new requests (they will just go to Retry because there are NO lenders available and will have to be cleared out later)
- request renewals (in many cases there is no one in the lending library to answer and the request will complicate things later)--just let everything go overdue and they can be returned from that status when we are back up and running
